Programs

What we teach, and who each program is for

Three programs, one shape: a free assessment first, a group of six after, and a plain account of what changed by the end of the twelve weeks.

Programs in detail

  1. Reading & Writing

Grades 3–8. For a student who still reads slowly we go back to decoding and fluency; for one who reads fluently but cannot say what a paragraph meant, we work on comprehension, vocabulary and the structure underneath it.

Writing is taught as a set of decisions - what goes first, what the reader already knows, where the evidence sits - rather than as a mystery some children happen to solve.

  2. Mathematics

Grades 3–12, arithmetic through pre-calculus. We find the earliest idea a student is unsure of and start there, because everything after it leans on it, then work forward to whatever the class is covering now.

Most students arrive two to four years upstream of where the trouble shows. Closing that is the work; keeping up with this week's homework happens alongside it.

  3. Study Skills & Test Prep

Grades 8–12. How to take notes worth rereading, plan a week, revise something more than once, and sit a timed paper without losing twenty minutes to panic.

We prepare students for the SAT, ACT and ISEE. Two terms before the test date is a realistic run-up; tell us the date and we will say honestly what is achievable from where your child is now.

Schedule and group size

Every program runs on the same shape. These are the times for the current term, so ask which group still has a seat before you set your week around one.

Schedule and group size
Reading & Writing
Days

Monday and Wednesday, plus a Saturday morning group for grades 3–5.

Times

4:00 PM and 5:30 PM on weekdays; 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM on Saturday.

Group size

Six students, never seven. Most groups settle at four or five.

Session length

75 minutes, once a week to start. A second session is added when it earns its place.

Term length

12 weeks, with a written review in week six and another at the end.

Mathematics
Days

Monday to Thursday, plus Saturday morning for grades 9–12.

Times

4:00 PM, 5:30 PM and 7:00 PM on weekdays; 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM on Saturday.

Group size

Six students, grouped by what they are working on rather than by grade.

Session length

75 minutes. Two sessions a week is the usual choice for a student who is a year or more behind.

Term length

12 weeks. Most students who arrive two years behind close the gap across two terms.

Study Skills & Test Prep
Days

Tuesday and Thursday, plus Saturday morning in the eight weeks before a test date.

Times

5:30 PM and 7:00 PM on weekdays; 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM on Saturday.

Group size

Six students, and four in the timed-practice sessions so every paper is read back aloud.

Session length

75 minutes, except full-length practice papers, which run to the real timing.

Term length

12 weeks, or a shorter run tied to a test date when the calendar leaves no room.

Program hours are Monday to Thursday 3:30 to 7:30 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. If none of those times work, tell us: we have moved a group before now.

Not sure which program fits?

Book a free assessment. Seventy-five minutes with your child tells us more than a phone call ever does, and it costs nothing either way.
